It’s the rare artist who virtually invents a genre single-handedly, and there’s no artist in any genre whose work has remained as dominant a force as Bill Monroe.  He described his music as, ”Scottish bagpipes and ole-time fiddlin’. It’s Methodist and Holiness and Baptist. It’s blues and jazz, and it has a high lonesome sound.”
